URGENT APPEAL FOR THE VICTIMS OF THE HAITI EARTHQUAKE.

A devastating earthquake that struck Haiti on Tuesday 12 January 2010 has killed thousands and injured many more. The 7.0 magnitude earthquake that struck close to the capital Port-au-Prince has destroyed homes, hospitals and hotels. Much of the city is made up of slums that were unable to withstand the force of the earthquake.

People are using their bare hands to dig out survivors and bodies from the rubble. In Port-au-Prince there are bodies on the streets, raising fears of a health crisis. Communication lines are down, roads blocked and water in short supply.

People urgently need food, medical care, clean water and shelter.
